The Jeep Beast: Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392

Jeep Wrangler JL Rubicon 392

I was sitting at my desk minding my own business when I heard a low-throated growl prowling slowly through our parking lot. The bay door rolled open behind me in the garage connected to my office, and the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end as the sounds of some monstrosity rumbled behind me. I stood up, turned around, and slowly opened the door to the garage to see what lurked behind the threshold. Was it a Raptor? Maybe a TRX? Squinting, I thought my eyes and ears were deceiving me - what I heard did not match what I saw. It was a Wrangler! The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392s had finally hit the street.

Wrangler 392 Hemi V8 Engine

We popped the hood and took a look at the 6.4L Hemi V8, which with all of the other engine components, packs about every available inch of space under the hood. This thing puts out 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. This blows away the standard Wrangler JL’s 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque.

The Wrangler 392 goes from 0-60 in 4.5 seconds, beating the 2017-2020 Raptor’s 0-60 in 5.1 seconds and giving the TRX’s 0-60 in 3.7 seconds a moment’s pause to reflect on how this Wrangler is almost keeping up with me. The Rubicon 392 clocks a ¼ mile at 13 seconds, beating the Raptor’s 13.9 seconds and rivaling the TRX’s 12.3 seconds. Could you imagine hanging at the local drag strip on a Friday night watching a Wrangler beat a Raptor to the mark? I know I’d like to see that.

Fox Suspension

Down below the 392 features Fox Aluminum-Bodied 2-inch Diameter Shocks, and an Electronic Sway Bar Disconnect enable this to maneuver amazingly on the trail. It boasts a Ramp Travel Index of 730, resulting in excellent suspension travel. All of this sits on 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels and 33-inch mud terrain tires.

Wrangler 392 Air Induction Hood

Air flow systems on the 392 are enhanced further than the standard JL. The engine temperature is further cooled by the Hydro-Guide Air Induction system, which also directs water away from the intake when driving in wet conditions.

Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 Exhaust System

It’s exhaust system has two available modes: Performance and Normal. The Normal Mode routes through the entire muffler, quieting that roar when driving past your HOA Board President’s house. In Performance Mode, the exhaust is routed by electronically controlled valves to flow straight through the muffler, minimizing back pressure and allowing the engine to roar like it wants to.

Rubicon 392 Seats with Embroidered Logo

Peeking into the inside of the Jeep, we see black leather trimmed seats with bronze stitching and an embroidered Rubicon 392 logo. The seats themselves have bolsters on the sides to secure your body as you’re hauling ass down the trail flicking the steering wheel mounted paddle shifters.

Rubicon 392 Touchscreen

The 8.4-inch Uconnect 4C NAV Touchscreen along with the 7-inch Full-Color Instrument Cluster provide loads of information while travelling offroad. Things like your current pitch and roll, drivetrain info & options, the Jeep TrailCam, climate control, and tunes all can be controlled or monitored through these instruments.

Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392

Now with all these off-road features and all that extreme trail power it only makes sense to enhance this beast even further with DV8 Offroad high clearance bumpers, rock sliders, and more.
