Jeep's EV Day Event Shows All-Electric Wranglers with Some Wild Features

On July 8, Jeep's parent company Stellantis, held an EV Day to present Jeep's plans for the next 10 years. At the heart of it, is an all-electric 2-door or 4-door Jeep Wrangler. The currently available Wrangler 4xe is only a hybrid gas-electric vehicle. They stated there will be an available all-electric vehicle in all it's vehicle segments. So we'll probably also see a Grand Cherokee EV as wells as a Wagoneer EV. The first milestone year for some wild features is in 2025.

By 2025 there will be at least a Wrangler EV available, with the new slogan Zero Emission Freedom. In a video they released, it should a pair of wrangles reminiscent of the Magneto concept. There is a white 2-door model with the word FREEDOM across the side of the hood. As the couple approaches, the Jeep activates face recognition software and responds by unlocking the doors and turning on. Apparently the charge was low on one of them, and they proceed to plug one Wrangler into the other for Peer-to-Peer charging on the trail.

The video then proceeds to show the couple sitting together in the EV, and launching a drone from the hood with the statement "Jeep Drone Pairing." It's a pitch black night, and the drone is flying out ahead of the Wrangler providing extra lighting on the trail.

The final feature projected to arrive in 2030, off-road autonomous driving. The video shows the couple driving up to a trailhead and hopping out. As they start their hike, the Wrangler drives off on it's own to go park and wait for them at the other end of the trail. It then shows the hiker visually check in on the self-driving Jeep with an interface built into a pair of glasses. Say what!? How a vehicle can drive autonomously without lane lines is beyond me, but perhaps they will deliver on this technology ten years from now. But would you even want to relinquish control off-road? Where's the fun it that?
